Resume ⬇️     CV ⬇️

Welcome!

I’m Clare Wan, a sociology Ph.D. at Brown University. Previously, I finished my Master's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and my Bachelor's degree in Zhejiang University. I grew up in Shanghai, China.

My research projects are situated at the intersection of economic sociology, international migration, development politics and science and technology studies (STS). I previously conducted comparative urban ethnography on the lived experience of African entrepreneurs doing businesses in China, published in Ethnic and Racial Studies. My dissertation work examines the transformation of a Chinese marketplace across its formalization, globalization, and digitization phases to unveil the intertwining political and social dynamics behind the order of the market.  👉 read more

Beyond my academic training, I'm passionate to expand my skills and toolkits. I've previously joined the Pandemic Journaling Project research team as a data manager. I also worked as a seasonal consultant on several projects contracted by ReD Associates. I enjoy a wide variety of research settings and projects that aim for the better of our society.  👉 read more
